UCU Migrant Members Conference and Standing Committee
The deadline for registration is 5 pm on Friday, 21 November.
The annual UCU Migrant Members Conference will take place on Friday, 5 December from 11:00 to 16:00 at UCU head office, Carlow Street, London.
The overall theme of the conference is “Organising against division: resisting the hostile environment”.
There will be one workshop specifically focused on mobilising migrant members politically, especially in the context of parliamentary elections in Wales and Scotland next year. In both nations, migrants are eligible to vote in the election, without the Commonwealth nationality requirement that exists for UK-wide elections. We saw how powerfully the Ukrainian community recently organised in Caerphilly and were part of a coalition that helped elect Lindsay Whittle from Plaid Cymru and saw off the threat from Reform.
We would welcome attendance from migrant members from across the UK, but particularly from Wales and Scotland, to attend the conference, share their experiences, and learn from one another to be more equipped to mobilising the political power of migrants and combating the far right.
The deadline for registration is 5 pm on Friday, 21 November and you can register for the conference here: https://ucu.wufoo.com/forms/migrant-members-annual-conference/
We would also welcome migrant members from FE and HE to join the Migrant Member Standing Committee. The nomination form for joining the Migrant Members Standing Committee is here: https://www.ucu.org.uk/media/11713/Migrant-members-annual-nomination-form/doc/MM_nomination_form___2_17f183a55bigb.docx
